We are very visual beings. We love imagery. Because of this, we are bombarded with images daily. People have an innate affinity towards images that please the eye and it has the power to affect our decisions, perceptions, and our purchases. Can you see where this is heading?
The image your company projects is first conveyed in the first few seconds by the images you provide to your potential customer. That gets them thinking "Hmm, this looks really good." The photo has accomplished the primary objective, and that's to grab their attention. Next they read the copy, gleaning further information, like why your product or services are the best. After that, my eye always returns back to the photos, and I think "Let's take a harder look at this now." Can I clearly see the details and the quality? Does it look well made? Can I make out it's key features or benefits? Is the image inspiring confidence in me? Once my confidence passes the tipping point... Click! I hit the Buy Now button, or pick up the phone to order. Those photographic images do an awful lot of talking!
A sad sign of the times I see more than I'd like to is when someone takes their own poor quality photos for a catalog, ad or website. The real irony is they think they are saving money doing it themselves, but they stand to lose immeasurable market share because the images undermine confidence in the company or their products and services. 100% of the time, I buy what looks great over what looks poor or boring.
